Robbins swears in Jasmine Washington as village administrator

Jasmine Washington was sworn in as village administrator of Robbins during a special meeting of the mayor and board of trustees on Oct. 5, 2021. Trustee George Brewton moved to swear in Washington and Trustee Tiffany S. Robinson seconded; the motion carried on a unanimous roll-call vote.
Mayor Darren E. Bryant, who called the meeting to order at 7:01 p.m., said the board stands united and that "the citizens and employees' safety is our top priority," and thanked the Cook County Sheriff's Department and local media for their coverage. Deputy Clerk Kyiesha Hill administered the oath to Washington.
Washington told the meeting she had been moved to public service after hearing community concerns in 2018 and said she views the appointment as "a God led assignment." She said Robbins is the "6th oldest Black led city in the United States," that the village has long-standing challenges that "won't be solved overnight," and that she will advocate for equitable practices and work to create sustainable change.
The board indicated it expects the administrator to engage on personnel and budget matters; trustees also noted they will continue negotiations with municipal unions and prioritize restoring public-safety operations. No specific personnel appointments, contract terms or budget amendments were detailed during the administrator's remarks.
The meeting concluded after additional items on the agenda were addressed, including a separate oath for the police chief and remarks during the public-comment period.
