Garrett Park council unanimously approves demolition permit for 10915 Clermont Avenue

The Garrett Park Town Council on Sept. 9 unanimously approved a demolition permit for the house at 10915 Clermont Avenue after the applicant reported extensive foundation failure.
At a public hearing, Stephanie Hernandez, representing HPDI, Inc., told the council the company purchased the property intending to renovate and add to the structure but found “significant foundation issues,” supported by photos submitted with the permit application. Hernandez said HPDI plans to construct a two-story, roughly 2,300-square-foot single-family home with a basement, deck and porch on the lot after demolition. She also offered to coordinate a salvage day with the Garrett Park Historic Preservation Committee so other owners of local “Chevy houses” could repurpose architectural elements that otherwise would be lost.
Council liaison Todd Eisenstadt said the Historic Preservation Committee recognized the house’s historic value but acknowledged that the foundation problems made preservation infeasible. Councilmember Phil Schulp asked whether the committee had requested photographs of the home’s current condition; Hernandez said that had been part of their conversation and HPDI was open to allowing photography and salvage.
Mayor Keller closed the public hearing and called for a motion. Councilmember Eisenstadt moved to approve the demolition permit; Councilmember Lisa Max seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The action completes the permitting step recorded in the council minutes; the Historic Preservation Committee and HPDI have discussed salvage opportunities and photographic documentation, which the committee requested. The council did not set additional conditions in the minutes.
