Springfield board approves 2026–27 staff slate, affirms HIB incidents and withholds one increment

The board voted to accept the staff list and multiple individual appointments recommended by the superintendent, including Pre-kindergarten teacher Helen Aguirre and Special Education teachers listed as pending background clearance. The motion also accepted the resignation of Sharon Marro, fiscal specialist, effective June 26, 2026, and approved several leave requests and FMLA timelines submitted by staff.
The board also affirmed five HIB incident identifiers (010-2526-15; 060-2526-11; 050-2526-08; 050-2526-09; 050-2526-10). The minutes show the board had convened in executive session earlier to hear a HIB appeal and to receive personnel updates from the superintendent before returning to public session at 7:22 p.m.
In a separate action under N.J.S.A. 18A:29-14, the board voted to withhold the increment, adjustment increment and any column increment for an employee identified in the packet as Employee ID 2881; the 2026–27 salary for that employee was recorded as $77,462 (Step 7-MA+30). The item was listed in the packet as "Increment Withholding" and was adopted as part of the governance motion.
Vice President Tracey Rinaldi moved approval of items 1–6 and addenda 17–22; Mrs. Turnbull seconded. The roll call recorded majority support with one abstention noted on item 6b. The packet notes that staff contracts remain subject to future adjustments tied to potential reductions in State School Aid.
The board also approved a set of revised and new job descriptions in the packet, including roles for district accountant, assistant business administrator/assistant board secretary, early childhood family-engagement positions, a preschool intervention referral specialist and other student-support positions; those descriptions are included in the meeting attachments.
The meeting record shows the board handled these items as grouped committee approvals rather than as separate contested votes. The board did not take public comment on agenda items at this meeting.
