Green Ridgewood seeks $2.2 million for climate resilience; council to consider resolution July 15

David Rafkin, chair of Green Ridgewood, presented the committee’s energy plan at the July 8 workshop and asked the council and residents for feedback before the plan is adopted by resolution.
Rafkin said the village received a $410,000 Sustainable New Jersey planning grant (funds from the Board of Public Utilities) to produce a menu of 12 energy initiatives across transportation, renewable energy and building efficiency. He said Ridgewood is also working with Bergen County on a $2,200,000 climate-resilience grant application that could support implementation.
Key initiatives highlighted include greater support for electric vehicles and public EV charging, municipal facility energy audits and direct-install grant programs, exploring solar on municipal roofs, a green building policy and a green development checklist to be discussed at the planning board. Rafkin said adoption by resolution would make Ridgewood eligible for later implementation funding and urged residents to attend a public session on July 9 in the senior lounge or submit comments by July 12.
Council members welcomed the plan and noted potential grant opportunities for implementation; the manager confirmed the schedule: Green Ridgewood will gather public input, revise the plan as needed, and the council will consider adoption by resolution on July 15.
