Shrewsbury to seek consultant for comprehensive plan after Board approval, Plan Commission told

The Plan Commission learned Sept. 24 that the Board of Aldermen approved issuing an RFP to hire a consultant to complete the city’s comprehensive plan; staff will research comparable RFPs and bring the item back to the commission for further discussion.
City Clerk Katelyn Wands told the Plan Commission on Sept. 24 that the Board of Aldermen at its Sept. 23 meeting approved the city going out for a request for proposals to hire a consulting firm to help finalize Shrewsbury’s comprehensive plan.
Wands said staff are researching RFP language and examples used by similar municipalities and plan to present draft RFP language or a discussion item at the next Plan Commission meeting. No consultant contract or firm was selected at the Sept. 24 meeting.
Commissioners amended the agenda at the start of the meeting to add the Comprehensive Plan Update under New Business so the commission could be informed and plan future discussion. Wands characterized the current step as preparatory: soliciting proposals and reviewing examples before returning to the commission for substantive consideration.
The commission did not take further action; the RFP authorization was approved previously by the Board of Aldermen and not by the Plan Commission at this meeting.
