During his remarks the president cited preliminary cost estimates discussed with engineers: he described the Delton Canal project at about $180,000,000 and a commercial canal at about $150,000,000, and said model and environmental work is underway with an alternative‑analysis phase expected to finish by the end of the month. He said the parish is pursuing CPRA funding and other sources to leverage those large projects.
Council members also reviewed multiple planning items from the Regional Planning Commission. A significant approval granted preliminary and final plat to Guidry Land Development LLC to subdivide roughly 62.2 acres into 76 residential lots, 3 commercial lots and 2 apartment lots, yielding a total of 189 dwelling units. Council discussion focused on drainage analysis and lighting compliance; a planning representative told members they received two constituent contacts with concerns and that the developer would comply with subdivision rules and staff conditions.
The Parish President and council members framed the Guidry project as an economic-growth opportunity; during discussion council members estimated the academy and related investments could total tens of millions of dollars (one figure cited: ~$25,000,000 for the academy and a broader development package reaching roughly $80,000,000 when combined with other projects). Members noted potential infrastructure needs (wastewater, roads, drainage) tied to such growth.
The parish is also promoting a notification system called Iberia PINs for emergency alerts and updates, and advertised current openings in parish government and an upcoming exit audit presentation. The council approved the planning items and moved the master plan and canal projects forward for continued study and later action.
