Greensville County School Board approves personnel recommendations after two closed sessions

The Greensville County School Board on June 8 approved personnel recommendations discussed in two separate closed sessions, the board said.

Board chair Jesse convened a closed session to "discuss, consider, or interview prospective candidates for employment, assignment, appointment, promotion, performance, demotion, salaries, discipline, or resignation of specific public officers, appointees, or employees of the school board," citing the Virginia code language read aloud at the meeting. After returning to open session the board certified the closed session complied with state law and then approved the personnel recommendations the superintendent presented.

Superintendent Dr. Wright requested approval of the personnel report; the board moved, seconded and approved the recommendation by voice vote. Later in the meeting the board entered a second closed session under the same statutory citation, certified that session on return to open session and again approved "all personnel matters discussed in closed session," according to the board record.

The board used voice votes for the certifications and approvals; no roll-call vote totals or individual member vote records were provided in the public session transcript. The chair declared each motion carried.

The meeting included the statutory certifications required under the Freedom of Information Act. The transcript records the board reading the certification language and members answering "yes" when asked whether only matters exempted under FOIA were discussed.
