Shrewsbury board previews FY2026 budget, adds funds for fire gear and resident mailers

City Administrator Dustin Ziebold told the Board of Aldermen on Nov. 11 that two modest adjustments were incorporated into the proposed FY2026 budget: $9,000 for fire turnout gear and $10,000 for a resident mailer, with the mailer expense split between the General Fund and the Stormwater and Parks Fund.
The board gave Bill No. 4063 — an ordinance to adopt the 2026 budget and make appropriation adjustments — a first reading. Alderman Ben Stark moved the first reading and Alderman John Odenwald seconded; the motion passed by unanimous vote. Ziebold said the additional line items are reflected in the materials sent to aldermen and that staff will continue to work on finalizing budget documents.
Ziebold also said the city is pursuing the resident mailer as part of a broader community engagement effort; he reported that he had gathered additional vendor quotes and that staff hope to proceed if the final budget is approved. The board did not take a final vote on the budget ordinance at the Nov. 11 meeting.
The next step is routine: staff will complete outstanding budget materials and present the ordinance for further consideration at upcoming meetings. The board's next regular meeting is scheduled for Nov. 25, 2025.
