The Shrewsbury Parks Board reviewed committee reports about condition and maintenance needs across several parks, discussed volunteer outreach strategies, and agreed to revisit rental policies after an incident at the Sunset Room.
Committee reports noted that the smaller Wehner playground needs weeding and possibly additional mulch and that vines need attention by the creek at the bottom of the upper Wehner field. Chris Buck said the board should consider removing the swing set across from the pool at Ackfeld Park and that a large tree will be removed; he also noted that tennis-court repairs will be addressed in the park master plan.
Amy George reported no significant issues at Brinkop Park, and Christine McDermott (with Glenn Kramer listed) said there were no new updates for Hartree Park.
Kathy Rehmer said participation in the Beautification Crew was down this year and suggested using text messages rather than an app to improve outreach. Chris Buck recommended scheduling a spring event and providing hamburgers to encourage volunteers. The board recorded that creeks appear overgrown and in need of focused attention.
Under Director’s Report, Director Chris Buck said staff are revisiting policies and penalties for renting the Sunset Room after a wedding that involved pyrotechnics and other property misuse; he will present suggested policy changes to the board at its December meeting.
As part of routine procedure, Sarah Wurr moved to approve the meeting minutes and Kathy Rehmer seconded the motion; the minutes indicate the motion was moved and seconded during the Oct. 15 meeting. The board scheduled its next meeting for Monday, Dec. 17, 2025.
