Shrewsbury Parks Board flags major repairs and budget shortfalls at Aquatic Center

Director Chris Buck presented the Parks Board with a summary of maintenance and budget issues facing the Shrewsbury Aquatic Center.
Buck said the play structure needs a new pump and has a leak. He reported that the leisure pool skimmer line has several leaks, with repair estimates ranging from $250,000 to $500,000, and that the lazy river’s pump and motor drive need replacement at approximately $20,000. He also noted that pool furniture is at end of life, with loungers roughly $300 each and chairs about $150 each.
Buck told the board that maintenance and repair costs are at least $20,000 over budget and that utilities are at least $50,000 over budget for the 2025–2026 cycle. He recommended commissioning a general feasibility study to produce options for the pool’s future and to guide budgeting and capital planning.
Board members did not adopt any formal action on the pool during the meeting; Buck said feasibility options and additional budget details will be discussed at the December meeting.
The Parks Board will next meet on Dec. 17, 2025, when members expect to revisit the aquatic-center study and related budget planning.
