Neighbors’ concerns over American Orthodontics shoreline project noted; court ruling set for June 16

Chair David Huenink told attendees that a group of people, mostly property owners near a proposed Lake Michigan shoreline project by American Orthodontics, have raised concerns about the project’s proposed use. Huenink said the dispute is currently before the Sheboygan County Circuit Court and that the parties’ attorneys will file briefs; a court ruling is scheduled for June 16, 2025.

The town did not take formal action at the annual meeting on the development. Huenink told electors that the town board had asked WE Energies whether it would be willing to relocate power poles at no cost if Gibbons Road were widened in the future, but there are no current plans to widen the relevant sections of Gibbons Road. Huenink also noted that the town might consider purchasing land along parts of Gibbons Road to expand right-of-way, but the board recognizes the utility’s proposed pole project aims to complete by June 1.

Residents near the site expressed concerns to the town; the minutes report community opposition but do not record a formal motion, petition, or vote on the development. The town’s role, as described at the meeting, was limited to reporting the existence of the dispute and noting the court process and timeline. The court’s forthcoming decision is the next formal milestone in this matter.
