At the board meeting, Patrick presented a staff recommendation that the district temporarily name two middle campuses after Ken Ramey and Louie Thomas, citing decades of service and community input.
Patrick summarized both mentheir years in education and service to the districtand said the names emerged repeatedly in stakeholder conversations. He asked the board to consider the recommendation over the next month and collect additional feedback before any formal vote. "If the board wants to, we can come back either next month or in the future, and we can have a vote to rename those buildings after those two men if the board so chooses," Patrick said.
Board members agreed more public feedback should be solicited and noted the decision is ultimately a board action. No vote was taken at the meeting; staff said they had consulted families and a superintendent advisory council and would continue outreach.
Next steps: staff will gather input over the coming month and return the matter to the board for consideration and possible vote.
