Edmonston council says FY25–26 draft budget is about $50,000 out of balance; ordinance introduced

Town Administrator Rod Barnes reviewed the draft fiscal year 2025–2026 budget at the Town of Edmonston work session on April 1 and reported the plan is approximately $50,000 out of balance. Barnes reviewed revenues and expenditures but made no recommendations at the work session. He introduced Ordinance 2025-OR-3, which would appropriate and adopt the FY25–26 annual budget.
Council members also reviewed the April 9 meeting agenda, which lists multiple consent and action items that relate to the town’s operating plans and costs. Those items include minutes from the March 12 regular meeting; consideration of an energy purchase agreement with Environ energy; final consideration of Ordinance 2025-OR-1 (amending Chapter 381, “Rental Property,” to increase the rental license fee) and Ordinance 2025-OR-2 (amending Chapter 319, “Licensed businesses,” clarifying good-standing requirements); renewal of auditing services with Lindsay and Associates at annual amounts of $12,250 for FY26, $12,600 for FY27 and $13,100 for FY28; consideration of a five-year public works services contract with Professional Lawn Maintenance Services for mowing, leaf pickup, snow removal and miscellaneous tasks; consideration of a bid award for construction of rain gardens on 47th and 49th Avenues under the PGC/CBT Stormwater Management Grant; renewal of IT services with NTI Now Technologies at an annual cost of $19,200; and the consideration of an agreement with Municipal Collections of America to collect delinquent police tickets.
No budget decisions were made during the work session; the ordinance to adopt the budget was introduced for formal consideration on the council agenda. The council adjourned at 8:21 p.m. after a motion by Council Member Sarah Turberville and a second by Council Member Betsy McCauley. The motion carried with ayes from McCauley, Johnson and Turberville and no nays.
