Elkton defers decision on $1.585 million flood-warning system after finance concerns

Mayor Robert J. Alt presented a three-year proposal from SAS for a townwide flood-warning system on Jan. 7, totaling $1,585,542, or $537,401.87 annually.
Commissioner Robert M. Massimiano questioned how the system would be funded, and Commissioner Earl M. Piner, Sr. asked to review the results of the Town’s financial audit before any decision. Commissioners Charles H. Givens, Sr. and Jean A. Broomell agreed with those concerns. Mayor Alt said the town cannot enter into an agreement with SAS without knowing the town’s finances.
Steve Rager, representing SAS, told the Board that Senator Zucker had noted possible state reimbursement funding for the project. The Board deferred further action on the proposal pending receipt and review of the town audit; no contract was approved at the meeting.
