On Feb. 4, 2026, the Mayor and Commissioners of the Town of Elkton voted unanimously to adopt Resolution 2-2026, a measure to re-designate the town's Arts and Entertainment District in support of the Elkton Alliance.
Town Administrator Lewis H. George, Jr. presented the resolution and Alicia Calhoun, Executive Director of the Elkton Alliance, told the board that "a letter of intent was submitted on February 1st and an approved Resolution is a requirement to move forward with the re-designation process." The board approved the measure on a motion by Commissioner Robert M. Massimiano, seconded by Commissioner Earl M. Piner, Sr.; the motion passed with all present voting in favor.
The re-designation request, Calhoun said, is tied to the Alliance's efforts to organize downtown events; the board did not make additional findings on program specifics during the meeting. The action was taken during the Town Administrator's report and is recorded in the meeting minutes.
The board did not attach a timeline or specific funding commitments to the resolution in the public meeting. The re-designation process described by the Elkton Alliance will proceed now that the board has issued the required municipal approval.
