Parents raise safety allegations at Brunswick Central School District meeting; board says third‑party investigation is underway

A public commenter read a formal complaint at the Brunswick Central School District (Brittonkill) Board of Education meeting alleging a May 29 dismissal incident in which a parent’s pickup truck was driven "at a high rate of speed" toward a group of 10 to 12 students, came to a stop extremely close to the students and, the complaint alleges, the driver then exited and physically assaulted a student.
"It is our understanding that mister Morin then drove his vehicle, a white pickup truck at a high rate of speed, towards [the] parking lot that the students had been directed to," the parent said while reading a written complaint submitted with counsel. The commenter said an arrest followed and that the district emailed that the individual had been arrested on June 12; an arraignment was referenced as scheduled for June 15. The parent said the formal complaint was filed on or about June 18 and that a school resource officer’s recommendation and subsequent reassignment raised concerns about how the matter was handled.
James Martell, a resident who spoke during public comment, asked the board to reassure families that "none of our kids were put in any type of danger" and said parents deserved clear communication even if specifics were limited by confidentiality.
Board President Ryan Goodenough responded that the board could not discuss details while a confidential third‑party investigation continues but said the district is working with appointed counsel and investigators and has committed to completing the inquiry "as quickly as possible". "Should any of the allegations involve anything along the lines of putting students at any form of risk, obviously, parents will be notified, and those responsible will be held accountable," Goodenough said, adding the board hopes to conclude the review within "2 to 3 weeks." The board moved to executive session to discuss personnel after public comment.
The claims made in public comment were presented by a parent reading a written complaint and remain allegations; the district stated it has no public stance while the investigation is pending. The board encouraged respect for the confidentiality of the review process while promising to inform parents if student safety issues are identified.
