Brunswick Central School District board re-elects president, assigns committees and approves routine annual items

The Brunswick Central School District (Brittonkill) Board of Education held its annual organizational meeting and re-elected Ryan Goodenough as board president, confirmed officer oaths and assigned members to standing committees and liaison roles.

Members appointed representatives to audit and finance, facilities, policy, communications, curriculum and assessment, wellness, the Brittenkill PTSA and the Brittenkill Educational Foundation. The board also named delegates for the Capital Area School Board Association (CAPSBA/CAPSPA) annual meeting.

By consent the board approved a package of routine items: board and special-education appointments, annual memberships, superintendent authorizations, designation of depositories and fiscal advisors, employee bonding and miscellaneous and substitute rates. The board noted it is conducting an RFP for school attorneys and special-education counsel; Honeywell Law Firm was listed as the interim counsel for July and August pending the RFP outcome.

Administrators brought personnel recommendations for approval. The board appointed Danu as the student liaison and confirmed Maureen as district clerk and secretary to the board. Special-education services contracts on the agenda were approved, and student placement recommendations under agenda item 7.2 passed by consent.

Financial reports were presented and the board publicly thanked the CSEA (Civil Service Employees Association) for productive negotiations, saying a memorandum of agreement reflected an outcome that supports district fiscal planning while recognizing staff contributions. "I believe we've reached a great agreement," President Ryan Goodenough said in thanking negotiating partners.

The organizational portion of the meeting concluded, and the board later moved into executive session to discuss personnel matters.
