Elkton commission approves replacement of 20 windows at 223 E. Main Street

The Town of Elkton Historic District Commission on March 26 approved a request from property owner William Davis to replace 20 windows at 223 E. Main Street.
Davis told the commission the existing wooden single-pane windows have significant rot and he proposed installing vinyl double-pane replacements. He confirmed the brick arch above each opening would remain intact and said the new windows were expected to insert into the existing frames without conflict. "The hopes are to be able to replace the windows that are currently old, wooden, single pane windows that have experienced a lot of rot," Davis said.
Chair Paula Newton and other commissioners asked about trim and surrounding wood; Davis said any painting of the wood would be a future step and that the window inserts would not disturb the brick arches. Commissioner Christine A. Brimm Hurschman moved to approve the application; the motion carried and business moved on to the meeting’s old/new-business reports.
The commission’s approval covers the 20-window replacement as presented; any changes to the materials, profiles, or the brick arches would require additional review.
