Assistance League of Columbia Pacific describes school-clothing, scholarship and duffel-bag programs

Judith Huck, public relations chair for the Assistance League of Columbia Pacific, told the Astoria City Council the chapter is a 501(c)(3) volunteer organization serving Clatsop and Pacific counties. Huck described Operation School Bell, which provides new clothes twice a year to students, a duffel-bag program for children entering foster care, funding for school activities, and Cinderella’s Closet with more than 700 prom dresses available for students to borrow. Huck said the group surveyed about 130 teachers and counselors; respondents reported improved attendance, academic performance, classroom behavior and confidence among students who received assistance. She noted the chapter’s annual budget is about $200,000, its signature fundraiser is a Home & Chef tour, and thanked the city for a $15,000 grant earlier in the year.
Huck invited volunteers and community support, listed an April 12, 2025 fundraiser in Hammond, and answered brief questions from councilors. Mayor Fitzpatrick and councilors thanked the Assistance League for its work and noted the community value of programs that reduce barriers for students.
