Council on Aging discusses $15,000 actuator quote, door security and parking-lot changes

Matthew Mitchell told the board May 21 that he received a quote just under $15,000 for an actuator upgrade; he said the Friends of the Danvers Council on Aging (FDCOA) asked staff to seek grant funding and to revisit the request at the FDCOA’s September meeting. Mitchell said the work will require a competitive bid process and that DPW is working on obtaining two additional quotes.
Separately, board members raised building security concerns after noting side doors are often unlocked. C.R. Lyons suggested consulting Police Chief Jamie Lovell about locking all doors except the front entrance; Mitchell said he would contact the chief to get his recommendation.
Mitchell also reported he attended a Traffic Advisory Committee meeting to discuss new direction signs in the parking lot intended to change traffic flow; Aaron Henry told the committee he would also look into adding a crosswalk from the Senior Center front door to the walking path. Mitchell said the back parking-lot lock will be reinstalled after a weekend soccer tournament and he will coordinate with the grounds department.
The FDCOA approved buying foldable art tables to free space for activities; that purchase and the actuator quote reflect ongoing facilities planning the board will revisit later in the year.
