The Danvers Council on Aging board accepted the minutes of its March 19 meeting and heard updates on finances, programs and facilities at its April 23 meeting.
Chair Gerri Cosgrove called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m. and the board unanimously approved the March minutes after a motion by Leotia Demeule and a second from Marge Leonard.
Matthew Mitchell, director of senior and social services, reviewed the council’s revolving accounts, reporting a Transportation balance of $92,232.54 and a DCOA Program balance of $347,271.83. Mitchell said the Transportation account will receive partner payments from Uber and Lyft later in the year when those vendors deposit funds to the account.
The board approved a plan to expand the senior-center Bistro from its existing schedule to three days per week beginning July 1. Maureen Larivee, a Wednesday Bistro volunteer, said the site typically serves about 18–20 lunches; she noted attendance was lower during school vacation week. Mitchell said Nutrition Coordinator Jen’s hours will increase from 26.5 to 30 to cover the additional day.
Program Coordinator Liz Barnes recapped the "Forever Young" Senior Prom, held April 16 at Danvers High School, saying, “Forever Young Senior Prom ... was a huge success.” Barnes reported 98 registered attendees plus walk-ins and about 60 student volunteers; event photos are posted on the DCOA Facebook page. She also announced upcoming programs: a safety presentation by Danvers Police presented by Jeff Smith on May 19 at 10:30 a.m.; a High Tea hosted by Jen on May 18 at 11:30 a.m. with a $5 fee for members and $7 for nonmembers; a volunteer-led walking group beginning in May at 9:30 a.m. around the Highland's School track; and bridge lessons starting next month with sign-ups available online or at the front desk.
On facility matters, Mitchell said he will meet with the Danvers Traffic Advisory Committee to propose a new traffic flow for the senior center parking lot, including directional signage to organize vehicle movement. He also provided an actuator-status update, saying he will continue to call and email vendors and officials to determine the current process and timeline for resolution.
Mitchell reported that the Friends of the DCOA will hold their annual meeting in May, donated $3,000 toward the Senior Prom and will host an awards brunch in June for the Lifetime Enrichment Award Scholarship.
Marge Leonard moved to adjourn; Leotia Demeule seconded. The board voted unanimously to adjourn at 3:35 p.m. The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 21 at 3:00 p.m.
