Committee restricts parking on Greenhill/Webster side near temple after driveway complaints

The Transportation & Safety Committee approved a no-parking regulation July 8 for the northerly (temple) side of Greenhill/Greenvale Avenue from Webster Street toward Davenport, responding to complaints that event and school-related parking block driveways.

Resident petitioner Anthony Pero told the committee that morning drop-off and visitors sometimes park at the pole and “I literally I can't back out to then pull down the street,” describing parked staff and visitors who leave vehicles for long periods. Committee members said staff had discussed the issue with temple management, who indicated the renovated classroom building is accessed from the rear parking lot and did not oppose a street restriction in front of the building.

Lieutenant McGrath and other members supported a north-side restriction to preserve traffic flow and allow event management to operate without repeatedly coning the street. Committee members debated whether to restrict both sides or only the temple side; staff recommended the northerly side as a compromise that would address driveway access while still allowing parking on the other side during events.

A motion naming no parking from Webster to Davenport on the northerly side was moved and seconded and passed on a roll-call vote. Staff said it will mark the restriction and follow up with the petitioner and the temple management. For special events that now use cones or police details, staff said existing practices will continue and the new signage will reduce ad hoc coning work.

The committee also discussed longer-term sidewalk/resurfacing work and an intersection analysis in contracting for nearby corridors but did not authorize capital spending at this meeting.
