Weyauwega Common Council re-organizes, swears in three aldermen and approves committee rosters

City Clerk Rebecca Loehrke administered the Oath of Office on April 16 to Aldermanic District 1 Pat Gorchals, Aldermanic District 2 Austin Baehnman and Aldermanic District 3 Cameron Looker as the Weyauwega Common Council convened at 7:28 p.m. in the Weyauwega Municipal Building Council Chambers. Mayor Rich Luedke opened the re-organizational meeting and welcomed the newly seated members, asking them to meet with Administrator Marcus Rennicke for orientation.
Council member Shani Appleby nominated Chris Gunderson for Council President; no other nominations were made. Appleby moved to appoint Chris Gunderson as Council President, and Aldermanic District 1 Pat Gorchals seconded. The motion carried on a unanimous voice vote recorded as “all ayes.”
Mayor Luedke presented his recommendations for the 2024–2025 Common Council standing committees and chairs. The approved assignments include Finance Committee (Chair: Shani Appleby; members: Meta Berg, Pat Gorchals), Public Works Committee (Chair: Austin Baehnman; members: Chris Gunderson, Pat Gorchals), Police, Fire & Ambulance Committee (Chair: Pat Gorchals; members: Shani Appleby, Meta Berg), Public Property & Purchasing Committee (Chair: Cameron Looker; members: Chris Gunderson, Austin Baehnman), Public Health & Relief (Chair: Meta Berg; members: Shani Appleby, Cameron Looker) and Recreation Committee (Chair: Chris Gunderson; members: Cameron Looker, Austin Baehnman). Meta Berg and Pat Gorchals were also appointed as the council’s representatives to the Plan Commission. Council moved to approve the standing committee slate and voted unanimously to adopt the recommendations.
The council also approved the mayor’s citizen appointments. The packet presented the following: Nate Stelzner to continue on the Board of Appeals; Nick Gunderson and Andy Rosenwinkel to continue on the Plan Commission; Holly King to renew her term on the Board of Review; Andy Rosenwinkel to fill the vacancy left by Keith Najdowski on the Board of Review; and Sue Prillwitz and Lori Wild to continue on the library board. Council voted to confirm the appointments with all ayes.
In other business, the council approved a motion to designate the Waupaca County Post West as the local newspaper of record and Premier Community Bank as the city’s depository bank. The May meeting calendar was set, with the Recreation Committee scheduled for May 14 at 6:00 p.m. and the City Council meeting set for May 20 at 6:30 p.m.
Council member Shani Appleby moved to adjourn the re-organizational meeting; Cameron Looker seconded, and members voted all ayes to adjourn. City Clerk Rebecca Loehrke certified the proceedings. The council did not take up additional business at this session.
