Weyauwega council approves administrative changes, property sale and two resolutions

At its Sept. 16 meeting, the Weyauwega Common Council approved multiple routine motions including appointing the police chief as interim public works director through the start of 2025, selling an industrial lot pending attorney approval, adopting Ordinance 2024-3 on mobile food vendors, and approving two resolutions related to Oakwood Cemetery assets and a recycling grant application.
Weyauwega — The Common Council on Monday approved a slate of administrative and operational measures, including staffing adjustments, property transactions and two formal resolutions.
The council voted 5–0 to approve a motion not to hire a city administrator and to authorize Police Chief Brandon Leschke to serve in a dual capacity as Police Chief and Interim Public Works Director, with the arrangement to be revisited at the start of 2025. The dual-role motion was amended during discussion at the request of Councilmember Shani Appleby to change the review timeline from nine months to Jan. 1.
Councilmembers also approved the sale of industrial lot #35-32-33-2 in Industrial Park West, contingent on Attorney Kalny’s review; Kalny told the council he saw no legal issues and noted the city would pay closing costs. Separately, the council approved listing a city dump truck for sale on the Wisconsin Surplus Auction Site.
On finance and operations, the council authorized moving forward with network upgrades for this year, with final totals to be presented later, and approved checks dated Aug. 1–31, 2024, totaling $299,403.39.
Legislative and grant actions included adoption of Ordinance 2024-3 regulating mobile food establishments, approval of Resolution #665 accepting the transfer of Oakwood Cemetery Association assets and authorizing an agreement, and approval of Resolution #666 authorizing the treasurer to file the 2024 recycling grant application on behalf of the city.
Other routine approvals included setting Trick-or-Treat for Sunday, Oct. 27, from 3–6 p.m.; allowing the Historical Society to plant an oak tree near the Little Red School House; approving a resubmitted Homecoming Parade permit for Sept. 27; authorizing the library to remove a large pine tree on its property; and granting a temporary Class B Retailer’s License to the Weyauwega Fremont FFA Alumni and Supporters for Oct. 12.
All motions cited in the minutes were recorded as carrying with five ayes and zero nays where a roll call was reported. The council set committee meetings and a Budget Workshop for Oct. 8 and scheduled its next council meeting for Oct. 21.
