The Auburn City Board of Public Works and Safety affirmed an order of enforcement for the property at 806 South Phillips Street on Wednesday and scheduled a review hearing for Sept. 1, 2026, at 9 a.m.
Building and Planning staff told the board the office mailed and posted the order of enforcement to the owner (named in the order as JDR/ Jamie R. Osborne) on June 22, 2026 after inspectors identified violations of local and state codes. The staff member outlined required corrective measures including preparing and submitting a detailed timeline and plan for remediation, removing interior rubbish and soiled flooring, clearing obstructed means of egress, installing at least one functional smoke detector, and removing exterior junk and garbage. The staff member said the owner has 60 days from the date the order was posted to comply and that, if not corrected by Aug. 24, 2026, the dwelling structure may be demolished under the cited code provisions.
The staff member read an email attributed to the owner, which said in part: “I’m not going to be able to make the meeting this morning. I can give you a progress update, though. The inside of the house has been thoroughly cleaned with the exception of one room, which I’ll be finishing when I feel better. Then the rest of the flooring will be removed… I’m hoping to have everything taken care of within the next two weeks.” The building and planning representative told the board that the office received that message the morning of the meeting.
The board’s presiding officer moved to affirm the order of enforcement and to set the review hearing for Sept. 1, 2026 at 9 a.m.; a board member seconded the motion and the board approved it by voice vote. Board members discussed that the hearing will document progress and that the board can extend deadlines if sufficient remediation is shown before the hearing.
The enforcement order cites provisions identified in the meeting as “c 36-7-9” and several local code chapters referenced by staff; staff said the next procedural step is the Sept. 1 review hearing. The board did not authorize demolition at the meeting; staff said demolition is a possible outcome only if the owner fails to meet the corrective timeline set by the order.
