Resident says she was struck at Mamaroneck Avenue–Prospect intersection and urges a four‑way stop

At the Board of Trustees meeting on March 9, resident Kana Hirano described being struck by a car on March 7 at the Prospect and Mamaroneck Avenue intersection and urged the village to install a four‑way stop to protect children and pedestrians.
Hirano said she was walking with small children when a car failed to stop and hit them, leaving the children bruised. ‘‘I was holding a 2‑year‑old and … I got hit by a car. I was so afraid for my children,’’ she told the board.
Trustees and staff responded that the intersection had been under review and that AKRF is designing pedestrian improvements. The board said staff has already advanced work on a four‑way stop and that the recent incident would prompt the village to accelerate that effort.
A trustee noted the item on the work session had been added at Trustee DeRose’s request, and a staff member said the village expects to receive feedback from AKRF shortly so the board can move forward. The board did not adopt an immediate emergency traffic order at the meeting; instead, members instructed staff to pursue the design and discuss the timing of installation.
The comment came during public comment on agenda items; no formal vote was taken on the intersection at the March 9 meeting.
