One trustee said the board has been "reactive instead of planning and being proactive" and expressed frustration that the signal work has taken years. Another trustee suggested a temporary timing change to give pedestrians a 10'15 second lead before vehicular movements as an interim "Band-Aid." Staff noted that hardware and controller capability determine what is possible and agreed to check AKRF's design timeline and feasibility.
The board referenced a larger FHWA-funded Safe Streets study that will prioritize villagewide pedestrian and traffic-safety projects; staff said that RFP is out and scoring is underway. Trustees asked staff to follow up with AKRF and reported the item for further discussion at the evening legislative meeting.
