He described the department as "100% volunteer" and said the training total was "unheard of in the state." Seemson listed certifications earned in 2025, including seven members completing New York State Firefighter I and multiple members certified as apparatus operators, pump operators and incident safety officers.
Seemson and trustees discussed recruitment: the chief said the department added about 10 volunteers over the past 18 months and seven completed Firefighter I training. He said a key challenge is that many required state training classes are scarce and fill rapidly, limiting how quickly volunteers can finish mandatory coursework.
Trustees thanked the department and asked follow-up questions about recruitment and training delivery. Seemson encouraged residents to visit the department website or contact the recruitment committee for volunteer information.
The board did not take formal action on the presentation; trustees moved on to other agenda items after the Q&A. The presentation was scheduled as an informational item and no vote was requested.
