Worth County moves ahead with $1.5M STP paving project, approves DOT agreement

Worth County supervisors approved a federal Surface Transportation Program (STP) funding agreement that will apply up to $1,500,000 (federally‑assisted share) toward a paving project on the Warbler route.
Agency official (S6) told the board the allocation will cover paving from Highway 9 up to the Grafton city limits and then resume north toward County Road 105. He said the county will not repave through the city because the city lacks funding to upgrade sidewalks; federal requirements can trigger ADA approach and sidewalk work that requires surveying and design. The STP allocation was described as up to $1,500,000 with an 80% federal share up to that cap.
Following discussion about survey costs and the district’s ability to permit a negative balance while using STP funds, a motion to approve the DOT agreement was made, seconded and approved by voice vote.
The board noted next steps will include finalizing project design, coordinating with the city on sidewalk responsibilities and scheduling work that may temporarily close roads during culvert replacements and other surface work.
