The Richmond City Council voted unanimously Aug. 26 to approve a $12,871 rebuild of sludge blower No. 5 at the city's wastewater treatment plant.
Public Works Director Dale Shipp told the council the blower had been making excessive noise; the unit was removed for inspection and Pathfinders Systems in Kansas City provided a quote of $12,871 to rebuild the existing blower and $19,228 for a new blower. A separate vendor, United Blower, quoted $18,960 for a new unit. Shipp recommended rebuilding the existing blower as the most cost-effective option.
Councilor Barb Hardwick asked how old the blower was; Shipp said the unit had been refurbished from the North Wastewater plant. Councilor June Paige asked about warranty differences between a rebuilt and new unit; Shipp clarified, "the warranty would be the same for both." Councilor Hardwick then moved to approve the $12,871 rebuild with Pathfinders Systems; Councilor Rob Kinnard seconded and the motion carried 6-0 on roll-call.
The approved rebuild is authorized to proceed through the Public Works Department. The council's action was a budgeted expenditure approval; the meeting record does not specify the line-item funding source or the repair schedule, which staff will provide as part of implementation.
