Board rescinds Brightstar nursing contract, approves new Care Options agreements for special‑education nursing

The Franklin Lakes Board of Education voted on June 17 to rescind a previously approved contract with Mari Care LLC (d/b/a Brightstar Care of Passaic and Western Bergen Counties) for nursing services and to approve replacement agreements with Care Options for Kids.
Resolution No. 1753 rescinded the Mari Care/Brightstar contract effective July 1, 2025. The board then approved two separate Care Options for Kids contracts: one to provide nursing for Special Education student #2776 at a rate of $67 per hour for 7 hours per day for 198 days (estimated total $92,682) and a second contract for transportation nursing services for students #4019 and #2776 at $75 per hour for two hours per day for 198 days (estimated $29,700). These contracts are effective July 1, 2025–June 30, 2026 as part of the 2025–26 school-year services.
The resolutions were presented on the Superintendent’s recommendation and specify hourly rates, daily hours and estimated costs. The rescission and new contracts were placed on the consent agenda and recorded as passed under the board’s motions.
