At the May 13 meeting the Franklin Lakes Board of Education approved several facility and technology contracts and project steps, including a 60‑month Ricoh copier/printer lease ($505,740) and a four‑year Apple iPad lease for student devices ($468,193). The Apple lease passed with eight yes votes; Ms. Elisa Billis voted no.
The board authorized schematic plans and the amendment of the district long‑range facilities plan for HVAC upgrades at Colonial Road School, specifying that the project will be funded as an "other capital project" and will not require state funding or a grant. The resolution authorizes submission of the plans to the Bergen County Superintendent of Schools and the New Jersey Department of Education.
Resolution 1675 approved Change Order #5 for EACM Corp. in the amount of $3,750 to remove and properly dispose of asbestos material in the mechanical room at High Mountain Road Elementary School; the minutes note the project allowance adjustment.
The meeting also recorded approvals of nursing services contracts for special education students: a contract with Mari Care LLC d/b/a Brightstar Care of Passaic and Western Bergen Counties (estimated cost $151,470) and a contract with Starlight Homecare Agency d/b/a Star Pediatric Home Care Agency of Saddle Brook (estimated cost $120,510).
Procurement notes in the minutes cite NJ Start for the copier quote and ESC of Morris County for the Apple lease procurement. The Apple lease first payment of $117,048.25 is due July 15, 2025.
Next steps: administration to process contract paperwork, schedule payments and coordinate implementation of HVAC schematic approvals with county and state education offices.
