The Pima County Board of Supervisors acted on a contested rezoning matter affecting a property near the Campbell Avenue scenic corridor, denying a request to close a long‑standing agreement and separately approving a five‑year time extension subject to original modified standards and special conditions.
Bill Yeoman, a Catalina Foothills Association board member and 20‑year homeowner in the Campbell Avenue zoning notification radius, urged the board to preserve the area’s environmental and historic character and to honor an agreement that limits development to 16 houses with a 24‑foot height cap. He said the neighborhood supports staff recommendations to extend the protections.
Supervisor Scott thanked Yeoman and the applicant’s representative for dialogue and moved to follow staff recommendations. The board initially voted to deny the closure; after a motion to reconsider passed, supervisors revisited item 16a and again affirmed staff’s recommendation to deny closure. Separately, the board approved item 16b, granting a five‑year time extension with the original modified standards and special conditions.
The board recorded its decision as part of the hearing process; supervisors asked staff and the applicant to continue dialogue about design guidelines and to ensure conditions that protect the corridor’s stated character.
