Commissioners approve boundary expansion, nonprofit sewer funding and ordinance updates

Boundary expansion: The board adopted a resolution expanding the geographic boundary of the county seat beyond the limits of the City of Tampa "to include all lands lying within the boundaries of Hillsborough County," the presenter said. The change was described as intended to reflect the distribution of county governmental facilities and to facilitate efficient county administration.
Nonprofit funding for sewer conversion: Commissioners approved up to $317,100 in funding for Brandon Sports and Aquatic Center, Inc. (doing business as High 5 Inc.) to convert the facility's septic systems to the county-owned central sewer system. The presenter described High 5 as a nonprofit providing after-school, athletic and aquatic programs to community members. The motion authorized funding but did not elaborate on the source of the funds.
Ordinance updates and appointments: The board adopted resolutions updating qualifications in the red light camera ordinance and the school zone speed enforcement ordinance and authorized the appointment of attorneys in good standing with the Florida Bar to serve as local hearing officers and receive appropriate compensation.
Cremation and burial-at-sea ordinance: Commissioners revised Hillsborough County's cremation, dissection and burial-at-sea ordinance to broaden its scope beyond fees for service and authorized the VLCC to establish a schedule of fees for various department services. The presenter noted the next VLCC meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, June 3 at 9:00 a.m.
