Waverly council accepts water-plant resignation, approves hire and authorizes $235.64 sewer-bill correction

The Waverly Village Council on Sept. 4 accepted the resignation of Tyler Rice from the Waverly Water Treatment Plant and approved related personnel actions and a utility-billing correction.

A council speaker described Rice as a water-treatment operator who is in the Army National Guard and is leaving for active duty. The council moved, seconded and approved acceptance of his resignation with an effective date noted in the resignation letter (Aug. 26, 2024).

The personnel committee recommended hiring Taylor (last name read as Haber/Haver) as a full-time employee in the tax department at an hourly rate of $17.60; council moved, seconded and approved that hire.

On the sewer adjustment, Public Service employee Angel requested approval to adjust the sewer portion of a customer bill after a consumption-reporting error on the city’s end. Council approved the correction after staff later provided the precise amount: "$235.64 is the sewer portion that will be adjusted due to the consumption error," Angel said. Angel also told council the office implemented software changes intended to prevent similar errors in future billing cycles.

At the meeting a council member announced they were moving out of the village and would resign effective Sept. 13; they recommended Amber Wilkes to fill the seat. Council accepted that resignation by roll-call vote; the motion carried.

The council instructed staff to implement the personnel changes and the sewer-bill correction and to report any further follow-up as required.
