The Green Township Committee on May 5 approved a trial program allowing advertising signs on the outfield fence at Wesley Field for the 2025 season. The resolution authorizes a maximum of 32 vinyl signs, each no larger than 3 by 4 feet, to be placed during the baseball season (May 1–June 30). Proceeds collected by the Lackawanna Newton Little League must be used for maintenance and improvements to Wesley Field.
The resolution sets conditions: businesses must be appropriate for youth sports and advertising content must be available to all including minors; signs may be removed at the township’s direction; Lackawanna Newton Little League is responsible for solicitation, installation, maintenance, removal and for executing a hold-harmless and indemnification agreement. Phillips asked that the resolution explicitly state that Green Township is not responsible for lost, damaged or stolen signs; the Township Attorney will add such verbiage. Rose objected to an initially proposed restriction that limited advertisers to a short list of municipalities; the Committee agreed to remove that restriction to broaden eligibility.
Why it matters: The measure creates a local fundraising mechanism for field upkeep while setting administrative and liability safeguards for the Township. The Committee will review the trial at its July 2025 meeting.
What’s next: Signs installed for the trial must adhere to the size, material and season restrictions; the Committee will re-evaluate the program in July.
