Dana Point police report lower crime in June, detail arrests and citations

Gonzales said deputies participated in community events including Memorial Day, school outreach and the Special Olympics torch run, and provided security for the Ritz-Carlton when the U.S. mens national team was based there for a recent World Cup assignment (funded by FIFA, Gonzales said, and not charged to the city contract). He described proactive traffic stops and investigative work that led to search warrants and narcotics seizures.
On statistics, Gonzales reported roughly 3,822 assigned calls for service and 2,046 proactive calls for service during the quarter. He said officers made 15 felony arrests, 12 warrant arrests and 36 misdemeanor arrests. Parking and traffic enforcement combined for 2,543 parking citations and 902 traffic citations; the most common traffic citations were for red-light, stop-sign and cell-phone violations.
Gonzales also encouraged residents to register with the FUSIS camera-registry program as an investigative tool, stressing that the department "will not access your cameras without your permission" and that the registry imposes no additional cost.
