Rolla 2050 draft reviewed; public comments range from support to pedestrian-safety requests

Community Development Director Dawn Bell and Tim Breihan of H3 Studio presented an informational review of the Rolla 2050 Comprehensive Plan draft during the Jan. 20 Rolla City Council meeting. The presenters described the plan as a two-year update to the city’s last comprehensive plan, adopted in 2006, and outlined the scope and timeline for public input.
During public comment that followed the presentation, Colin Gentry expressed support for the draft plan while David Dukes told the council he does not support the Centre and asked council to listen to constituents. Troy Colerie, a resident of Ward 6 and student at Missouri University of Science and Technology, raised a separate issue of pedestrian safety and asked the council to consider either a marked crosswalk or traffic signal at a busy area used to access campus.
Council members and staff noted an upcoming public open house on Jan. 21, 4:30–7:00 p.m. at the Eugene Northern Community Hall to collect further public input on the plan. No formal action on the comprehensive plan was taken at the meeting; the presentation was informational and the plan will move forward through the city's public-engagement schedule.
