Stevens County commissioners approve routine items, register LPHE retailer and approve service contracts

The Stevens County Board of Commissioners handled routine business June 2, approving the meeting agenda, several sets of minutes, a retail registration for Low Potency Hemp Edibles and two purchase-of-service agreements.
Commissioner Kopitzke moved (seconded by Commissioner Wohlers) to approve the agenda with changes; the board approved the motion unanimously. Commissioner Ennen moved to approve the May 19, 2026 minutes (seconded by Commissioner Staples), and the board approved amended minutes for May 5, 2026 on a motion from Commissioner Staples (seconded by Commissioner Kopitzke); all were recorded as unanimous, 5-0 votes.
Auditor/Treasurer Stephanie Buss presented an application to register Low Potency Hemp Edibles (LPHE) retail for the City of Morris location of Morris Liquors; Commissioner Kopitzke moved to approve the LPHE registration and Commissioner Staples seconded, with the motion carrying 5-0.
County Administrator Rebecca Young presented two purchase-of-service items: a contract with Kandiyohi County and a separate agreement with Matthew Sickler effective June 1–Dec. 31, 2026. Commissioners approved both agreements after brief discussion (Kandiyohi contract motion by Commissioner Ennen, second by Commissioner Kopitzke; Sickler agreement motion by Commissioner Staples, second by Commissioner Ennen), each vote recorded as unanimous.
County Engineer Todd Larson introduced new Highway Technician Derek Giese, who began on May 11, 2026, and provided engineering and maintenance updates. The meeting concluded with department updates and commissioners’ committee reports; the board adjourned at 10:22 a.m. on a unanimous vote.
