Bethel Park SD says new elementary school on track for Sept. 1; change orders and staffing adjustments noted

On schedule, the presenter said final inspections were set to begin the week of Aug. 17, moving was planned for Aug. 3–18, and staff would be able to access rooms after inspections with a reported staff reporting date of Aug. 26. 'We set the date of the 17th for inspections to get the published date,' the presenter said when describing the inspection and occupancy sequence.
The board reviewed several change orders. The presenter described change order GC‑59, a revision to the storefront glazing related to ASI 4/RFI 317; the revision was made for constructability and joinery reasons and produced a roughly $22,000 credit to the district. He also explained staffing changes for the electrician trade: the contractor ran multiple crews without additional charge to the district but required added supervision, which the district previously compensated for on an earlier change order and is reconciling for later months. The presenter said he was still negotiating deductive change orders with Rycon to offset some costs and that the amounts proposed 'do still fall under the change order that's left,' but that those negotiations were not yet final.
Board members asked whether the roughly $200,000 left in contingency covered the listed items; the presenter confirmed the page‑two amounts did not exceed the remaining change order balance but emphasized the final reconciliation was pending. A facilities lead moved the change orders to the consent agenda for approval.
The presenter closed by thanking the board; no public comments were offered during or immediately after the presentation. The district will proceed with mid‑August inspections, scheduled move dates and final reconciliation of pending change orders before final occupancy.
