Nonprofits, youth groups and EMA brief Montgomery County commission on programs and severe‑weather outlook

Benetolo asked commissioners for support and local introductions for collaboration (S13).
Representatives and students from the Southern Youth Leadership Development Institute introduced themselves and described program goals; teacher and program director Britney Williams Jones (S17) identified staff roles and the Institute’s work with youth ages 12–18 (S17). Bonnie Sullivan (S22) introduced herself as the new executive director of 1 Place Family Justice Center and outlined the center’s coordinated services for survivors of family violence; she provided materials for commissioners and asked for continued support (S22).
Wade from Emergency Management (S20) briefed the commission on an approaching wet period, saying the county could see 8 to 10 inches of rain over several days and that coastal counties may receive tropical‑storm watches or warnings. Wade said his agency does not have funding this year to distribute weather radios countywide but has budgeted funds in 2027 to pursue a radio distribution program; he noted some partner groups periodically distribute a limited number of radios (S20).
Commissioners thanked presenters, commended youth participation and requested staff follow up on partnership opportunities and operational support for weather preparedness.
