LaSalle County treasurer: $108 million in tax bills mailed; investments yielding about 4%

Treasurer Jim told the LaSalle County Taxes, Elections & GIS Committee on June 16 that "Total due this year is 108,000,000," a rise of roughly $16 million from last year and about $89 million higher than 2016 levels. He said tax bills were mailed on June 10 and gave two due dates for taxpayers: July 15 and Sept. 9.
Jim also reported collections and distribution timing, noting the first distribution will be July 6 and that mobile-home final due dates are in mid-June. On investments, he said one-year instruments are yielding around 4% and that general‑fund yields are a little under 4% while public‑safety funds returned about 3.88% for the month.
The treasurer noted the county's surplus auction is scheduled for the first week of September with bids returned the first week of October. Committee members asked routine clarifying questions about installment payments and mailing envelopes that consolidate multiple parcels to reduce postage.
Chair Doug Traeger called for a motion to approve the treasurer's report and to pay treasurer bills. The committee moved and seconded those motions and voted to carry them unanimously.
