Huron Valley Schools board elects officers, approves routine designations in organizational meeting
Summary
At its June 15 organizational meeting, the Huron Valley Schools Board of Education elected Laura Dodd president, Lindsay Cotter vice president and Denise Pastana secretary; the board approved legal counsel, insurance, bank depositories, official newspapers and other routine designations, mostly by unanimous votes.
The Huron Valley Schools Board of Education held its annual organizational meeting June 15 and cleared a slate of officers and routine administrative designations.
Laura Dodd was elected board president for the 2026–27 school year after a motion and second and a roll call vote that passed unanimously. Lindsay Cotter was nominated and approved as vice president, Denise Pastana was named board secretary and Tom Wiseman was appointed treasurer; each motion passed by board vote.
The board also approved a list of outside legal counsel for the coming school year, including firms listed in the meeting packet, and designated Arthur J. Gallagher & Company, the MASB SEGPC pool and HUB International as insurance agents of record. The board approved its bank depositories as shown in Exhibit A, designated The Milford Times and The Oakland Press as official newspapers and added Public Notice Weekly as a digital posting option. All routine administrative items were approved without recorded opposition.
Other organizational actions included board memberships in the Oakland County School Board Association, Michigan Association of School Boards, National School Boards Association and Michigan PTA, designating the superintendent’s administrative assistant as the district’s Open Meetings Act public-notice officer, and approving the board’s calendar, governance standards and procedures for 2026–27.
