The wind event resulted in [the] Public Safety Building being out of power for quite some time," a city staff member told council while describing the grant opportunity. Councilors characterized the installation as a community safety priority and supported accepting the award. A roll‑call vote recorded Ayes from Councillors Gabrielle, Dowd, Waterman, Fisher, Leftridge, Nunnally, Walker and Mayor Hunter; the chair announced the motion carried.
On a separate procedural item, councilors voted to adopt a resolution of intent to call for a public hearing on the 2026 preliminary budget (public hearing scheduled July 6), also approved by roll call. Earlier in the meeting the chair closed a prior motion with the customary "All those in favor state by saying Aye" and announced the motion carries.
Staff said the public hearing notice will go out and the council will discuss the budget again at a work session before final action. The generator acceptance obligates the city's required match; staff will return with implementation details for procurement and installation.
