County benefits committee seeks to pilot employee wellness program with $50,000 Anthem grant

Dennis said the committee has secured $50,000 from Anthem to start the program and proposed using county partnerships (Southwest Memorial and the local health department) and internal incentives to increase participation. "That's why Jake worked very hard to get us the $50,000 from Anthem to start this program," Dennis said.
Committee members emphasized that voluntary participation and incentives are critical; past programs had low participation rates (they estimated 10—25% depending on the approach). Presenters said the initial money would be used for trial-and-error testing, with the committee returning in roughly six weeks with a fuller plan and funding-acceptance language.
Board members asked about ongoing costs and whether the startup funding would obligate the county to continuing expenditures. Presenters said the pilot is funded from existing insurance-returned funds and other internal allocations, and that program design would seek sustainability without an immediate general-fund draw.
No formal vote was taken; the board will consider the committee's full implementation plan and any request to accept the $50,000 in a subsequent meeting.
