The Quincy City Licensing Board voted to opt into a recently enacted state pilot program permitting municipalities to extend on‑premises alcohol service by one hour. Chair (Speaker 2) summarized that on 06/08/2026 the governor signed legislation authorizing municipalities to opt into a temporary pilot to allow on‑premises licensees to serve alcohol until 2 a.m. through July 31, 2026.
Chair explained that the city typically requires premises to close at 1 a.m. and that opting in would allow participating licensees to operate until 2 a.m. if they choose. Staff (via Sue) will send an opt‑in email to local licensees and maintain a list for ABCC records; licensees may contact the licensing office directly if they do not receive the email.
Board members discussed whether the pilot is citywide or statewide in applicability; Chair clarified it is a statewide enactment that municipalities may opt into. A motion to accept the city of Quincy opting in to the temporary pilot was moved and approved by voice vote; the board noted the extension is effective immediately for licensees that opt in and will remain available through July 31, 2026.
