At the June 16 meeting the board and multilingual department celebrated Hackensack High School students who earned the New Jersey State Seal of Biliteracy for 2026. Marcela Moncloa, the district’s director of multilingual and world language education, described the seal as a recognition from the state Department of Education for students who show proficiency in at least one language in addition to English by graduation.
Moncloa thanked former supervisor Angelina Martinez and administrative assistant Jariza Alcantara Salas and acknowledged world-language teachers who supported students’ language learning. Students came forward to receive certificates, graduation cords and medals; two students who earned seals in both Spanish and Italian were presented with an additional global seal certificate.
The board and superintendent congratulated the recipients and invited families and the community to celebrate the students’ accomplishment. The district said it will continue to fund biliteracy testing licenses and support honor-society activities as part of multilingual programming.
