A resident asked the council for an update on awarding bids for the bike-trail reconstruction. Town staff said they have met with engineers and contractors; engineers recommended additional engineering and construction management, but staff are considering a simpler public-bid approach that focuses on milling and overlay with unit pricing for patches where base repair is needed.
Staff explained that using unit pricing would allow contractors to identify damaged base sections after milling and repair them in place rather than removing and replacing the whole trail. “It'd be a complete mill and overlay. And then areas where the base is compromised, they would have to dig that out and do patchwork, and fix the base,” the presenter said. Staff said enhancements beyond repaving (for example, widening or new amenities) are not included in the current bid to keep costs down; they noted a possible center stripe could be added without a design engineer.
The town hopes that if bidding proceeds promptly and engineers provide required information, construction could be completed around August. The council encouraged interested contractors and residents to monitor the town website and local advertisements for bid details.
