Commissioners approve 10 CDBG‑DR rebuilding projects and an $80 million multifamily housing program

On April 15 the Board of County Commissioners approved 10 additional infrastructure projects under the Rebuilding for Tomorrow program and approved a proposed multifamily housing program funded through Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG‑DR) funding.

“Katie with Hillsborough County Communications and Digital Media said the program is a Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery or CDBG‑DR program administered by the county and funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.”

The county recap said the 10 approved projects are dispersed across the county and selected to address or mitigate flooding from hurricanes referenced in the meeting. Katie listed project categories including neighborhood drainage improvements, channel restoration, culvert repairs, emergency power outage beacons, pump station resiliency, conversion to low‑pressure sewer systems, and natural lands restoration for flood mitigation.

Commissioners also approved a proposed CDBG‑DR multifamily housing program that "allocates $80,000,000 in grant funding" under the county’s action plan. The county said the multifamily program will assist small rehabilitation projects of 5 to 50 units and larger‑scale development for substantial rehabilitation and new construction; a separate special population housing program was described for projects of about 50 to 100 units. Katie noted that "all future projects will be brought to the board for consideration."
