Committee members discussed using the school/boardroom as a community space and asked staff to draft a policy template for review.
Committee member (S1) said the space is unused much of the time and suggested the board consider allowing community groups access. S1 said the school was paid for by the community and that parameters could be drawn to permit limited use: “I would like to at least suggest that Todd show us that template,” S1 said.
Staff member (S4) said he had a template he used in a previous community and offered to adapt it for Caledonia: “I have a template template that I've used in a previous community when this issue was brought up. We have it bring something similar in a similar fashion to you for you to review.” He outlined concerns that previously stalled adoption elsewhere — chiefly how to draw lines for eligibility (resident, nonprofit, public) and whether to charge fees or a cleaning fee.
Agency official (S2) thanked Todd for volunteering to look into the template and the board agreed staff would return with a draft for committee review. The board did not adopt a formal policy at this meeting; staff were tasked with preparing a draft.
